What is MWAMI?

MWAMI is a contemporary Senegalese fashion label based in Dakar, founded in 2015 by the artist and designer Papi Wata. It makes boubous, embroidered ready to wear and the Stealth athleisure line, all produced in its own atelier in Dakar. Its tagline is Made of Africa.

Who founded MWAMI?

MWAMI was founded by Papi Wata, an artist and fashion designer based in Dakar. He designs every collection from the MWAMI studio. More of his work is at papi.studio.

Where are MWAMI clothes made?

MWAMI pieces are made in Senegal, in the MWAMI atelier in Dakar.

What collections does MWAMI make?

MWAMI has three ongoing lines. Harmattan is the seasonal ready to wear collection, named after the dry seasonal wind that crosses West Africa, with boubous and embroidered pieces. Stealth is the athleisure line. MWAMI FC is the football line: 90s and 00s inspired kits made from deadstock fabrics sourced in Senegal. Past capsules include The Ñuulest and MWAMI + L'Artisane. Does MWAMI make boubous?

Yes. The boubou is central to MWAMI and appears across the Harmattan collections, cut for a relaxed fit and worn by men and women. See the current boubous in Harmattan.

Is MWAMI menswear or womenswear?

Both. Many MWAMI pieces are unisex, including the boubous and the Stealth athleisure.

Is MWAMI ethically made?

MWAMI is made in Senegal in small runs, and many pieces are made to order, which keeps unsold stock low. The studio works with deadstock fabrics sourced in Senegal.

Who has worn MWAMI?

MWAMI has been worn by artists including Mr Eazi, Jidenna and Mayra Andrade, and has been featured by CNN African Voices, OkayAfrica and Nataal. The full story is on the About page.

Does MWAMI ship internationally?

Yes. Orders ship from Dakar with DHL. Many pieces are made to order, so allow up to three weeks before your order ships.

What is the MWAMI returns policy?

You can request a return within 10 days of delivery. Write to Sales@mwami.co with your order number to start one.

Can I visit the MWAMI studio in Dakar?

Yes, by appointment. The Dakar studio hosts visits and fittings. Book by emailing Sales@mwami.co or messaging @mwami.co on Instagram.
